West Midlands: questions landlords ask

When must I register a rental property in West Midlands?

West Midlands's registration period runs from 15 December 2026 to 14 March 2027. Occupied properties must be registered before midnight on 14 March 2027. You may register earlier, from 15 December 2026.

How much will I pay if I register on 15 December 2026?

£5.34 for that property's first year if it is your first registration: (65 / 365) × (365 − 335), rounded down. Your renewal date would be 15 December 2027.

And if I leave it to the last day, 14 March 2027?

£21.31: (65 / 366) × (366 − 246), rounded down, with renewal on 14 March 2028. Registering later raises the first bill but pushes your first renewal back by the same time.

I also have properties outside West Midlands. What should I do?

You can register them all on one day, as long as that day is on or before the earliest end date among your regions. Every property then shares one renewal date.

How do I know my property is in West Midlands?

Enter its postcode in the checker on our home page. GOV.UK also publishes a list of the regions of England and their local councils, linked from its guidance page.
